One key to enhance construction project productivity

It is no breaking news, from what certain people (McKinsey) could observe, productivity in construction projects has been stable or even decreased in the last 30 years. I don’t want to discuss the how but since we see a big move towards digitalisation (after COVID-19 crisis started) we hope this move will be also done towards more efficient projects.

At Primaned Belgium, we see a lot of projects. Most of us originate from the construction sector and we observe all project controls technologies in the market. However, if you know us, you also know we are not dependant of one software vendor. Our main goal is to enhance the situation of our customer based on their business case. The digital product that will support this is necessary but remains secondary.

“Yes, my organization is mature enough for dashboarding!” – Demystifying Business Intelligence Dashboards

I often hear people telling their organization is not mature enough to have some business intelligence dashboards to visualize their projects’ performance. I believe that in some way they are right; having a higher maturity in project controls is always desirable and it’s proven that it brings better results. Is AI going to disrupt the world of project controls?

Back in 2012, when I started at Primaned Belgium (my first job), I did not know precisely what I would be doing. In fact, it remained hard to explain what we are doing to someone random. I knew it was about Project Management, mostly in the construction industry (I am a construction engineer), very much oriented on time planning/scheduling and it required some IT knowledge/affinities. With this and my dreamful mind, I had the (naïve) dream job idea! I was going to improve the construction industry by implementing tools that would create and monitor the project planning just by dictating to the tool what the project was about, the tool would do the rest for me (I just slightly exaggerate ?)!

I saw the future of BIM (from a Belgian point of view…)

Last week, 5th of March 2019, I have been in London to attend an event regarding BIM which was organised by Phil Shatz (thank you Phil!). This is part of a recurrently organised set of events called Glimpse of the Future, and this one was then called A Glimpse of BIM. I got out of there with such a good feeling about BIM but, on the other side, a strong frustration on the current situation we are living in Belgium… Let me explain…
